It seems less than ideal that a response developed to avoid being eaten by predators and deployed as necessary in extremely short spurts is the same response we now use when activated by less lethal, more chronic activators, such as financial struggles or awkward social situations. Especially because we humans are generally not great at regulating these automatic, emotional responses. Oops.
